Local artist designs outfits for medal bearers

The Minesh Chavda-designed outfitsLocal artist, Minesh Chavda has designed the outfits for the medal bearers at the European Athletics Indoor Championships taking place in Birmingham this weekend. The two male and five female medal bearers will be decked out in outfits reflecting the colours of the medals - gold, silver and bronze – and using shapes influenced by athletics arenas such as the curves of the race track and circular forms of the medals.

Minesh, who trained at University Central England in the city, is an artist who specialises in visual communication including photography, fashion design and graphics. He said: “This project was an exciting challenge and I am very pleased with the outfits which I think are very smart and reflect the sport of
athletics very well.”

Cllr Mike Whitby, Leader of Birmingham City Council said: “I am delighted that Minesh, a Birmingham designer has created these unique outfits for the medal bearers. These championships have given Birmingham the opportunity to show off our creative talents in so many different ways and Minesh can be very proud of the resulting outfits which will be seen across the world during this weekend’s coverage.”
